In a revelation that has stunned political observers, Senator Samson Cherargei has openly admitted that Kenya’s ruling UDA party plans to infiltrate the opposition Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) with their own candidates ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Nandi Senator’s candid admission at Parliament Buildings represents an unprecedented public acknowledgment of political subterfuge. “We are going to have our candidates in UDA and also in DCP, but they sing UDA at night,” Cherargei declared, seemingly unconcerned about the ethical implications of such a strategy.

This infiltration plan targets Mt. Kenya region, where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP has been gaining traction. UDA aims to maintain political dominance by ensuring that even candidates running under DCP colors are secretly loyal to the ruling party.

Cherargei specifically mentioned the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race as a key target, where Governor Anne Waiguru is completing her constitutional term limit. The senator promised that UDA-aligned candidates would win key positions and “come home” after the election—presumably revealing their true allegiance.

But the senator didn’t stop at revealing infiltration tactics. He launched a scathing attack on Gachagua, accusing him of turning DCP into “the highest auction house” where party tickets allegedly go to the highest bidder. Cherargei claimed that Gachagua’s recent UK fundraising trip aimed to raise Ksh2 billion but netted only Ksh2 million, calling him a “political conman.”

Gachagua’s allies defended the trip, explaining it was cut short due to urgent political engagements including preparations for the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election and strengthening DCP structures nationwide.

This public admission raises serious questions about electoral integrity, party loyalty, and democratic processes in Kenya. If ruling parties can openly discuss planting moles in opposition parties, what does that mean for genuine political competition?

For those interested in political strategy and ethics, “The Prince” by Machiavelli remains relevant reading.
