In a stunning revelation that has sent shockwaves through Kenya’s political landscape, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has openly disclosed UDA’s strategy to infiltrate the opposition Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking candidly at Parliament Buildings on Tuesday, the outspoken Ruto ally announced that UDA will strategically back government-friendly candidates to run under the DCP banner in Mt. Kenya region. “We are going to have our candidates in UDA and also in DCP, but they sing UDA at night,” Cherargei declared without hesitation.
The admission reveals a sophisticated political strategy aimed at maintaining government influence in Mt. Kenya despite growing support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his DCP party. Cherargei specifically mentioned the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race as a key target, where Governor Anne Waiguru is approaching the end of her constitutional term limit.
But Cherargei didn’t stop at revealing strategy. He launched a blistering attack on Gachagua, accusing him of turning DCP into “the highest auction house” where party tickets allegedly go to the highest bidder. He claimed that Gachagua’s recent UK fundraising trip, which aimed to raise Ksh2 billion, only managed Ksh2 million.
Gachagua’s allies, however, defended the trip, stating it was cut short due to urgent political engagements in Kenya, including preparations for the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
This open acknowledgment of political infiltration raises serious questions about party loyalty and democratic principles. It also highlights the intense battle for Mt. Kenya’s political soul as the region becomes the key battleground for 2027.
As Kenya’s political chess game intensifies, voters will need to be more vigilant than ever about the true allegiances of their candidates.
