In a stunning revelation that’s sending shockwaves through Kenya’s political establishment, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has openly admitted that UDA plans to infiltrate the opposition Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking at Parliament Buildings, the outspoken Ruto ally laid bare a strategy that sounds straight out of a political thriller: “We are going to have our candidates in UDA and also in DCP, but they sing UDA at night.”

The admission reveals UDA’s determination to maintain political dominance in Mt. Kenya region despite growing support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP. Cherargei specifically mentioned targeting key races like the Kirinyaga gubernatorial contest, where Governor Anne Waiguru is term-limited.

But Cherargei didn’t stop at revealing infiltration tactics. He launched a blistering attack on Gachagua, accusing him of turning DCP into “the highest auction house” where party tickets allegedly go to the highest bidder. He claimed Gachagua’s recent UK fundraising trip aimed to raise Ksh2 billion but netted only Ksh2 million, calling him a “political conman.”

Gachagua’s allies, however, defended the trip, saying it was cut short due to urgent political engagements including preparations for the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election and strengthening DCP structures nationwide.

This public admission of political infiltration raises serious questions about electoral integrity and party loyalty. It suggests a level of political gamesmanship that could undermine democratic processes as Kenya heads toward 2027.

For political enthusiasts wanting to understand Kenya’s complex electoral landscape, “Kenya: A History Since Independence” by Charles Hornsby offers invaluable insights into the country’s political evolution.

The big question: will voters see through these political maneuvers, or will UDA’s strategy succeed?
