President William Ruto has urged Kenyans to remain calm ahead of the 2027 General Election, insisting that divine intervention will determine the outcome. Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Ruto delivered a message of faith and reassurance amid rising political tensions.

“Relax, what God has planned will happen,” the President stated, emphasizing that Kenya will conduct peaceful, free, and fair elections. “We will vote for a peaceful election that is free and fair. No one can change what God has decided.”

When asked about his re-election prospects, Ruto maintained a philosophical stance: “If God decides I will serve a second term, I will. If God decides otherwise, it’s fine. Relax.” This approach marks a departure from typical campaign rhetoric, positioning the 2027 race as a matter of faith rather than political strategy.

The President also pushed back against narratives suggesting Kenya is heading in the wrong direction. He argued that media outlets prioritize negative stories because “bad news sells” while positive developments go unreported. “I have no doubt that it does not matter what anyone writes about Kenya going in the wrong direction,” Ruto said.

He rejected concerns about state failure, declaring: “Kenya is not, and will never be, a failed state. I don’t care how many headlines claim Kenya goes in the wrong direction. This country will never go in the wrong direction.”

Ruto credited divine grace for Kenya’s stability over the past three years: “We have many things to thank God for. God has shown grace to our nation.”
