In a stunning revelation that’s sending shockwaves through Kenya’s political establishment, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has disclosed UDA’s covert strategy to infiltrate the opposition Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking to media at Parliament Buildings Tuesday, the outspoken Ruto ally didn’t hold back: “We are going to have our candidates in UDA and also in DCP, but they sing UDA at night.”
The strategy targets Mt. Kenya region, where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been building DCP support following his impeachment. Cherargei revealed that UDA plans to back government-friendly candidates running under the DCP banner, essentially creating political double agents.
The focus includes key races like the Kirinyaga gubernatorial contest, where Governor Anne Waiguru is term-limited. “We must have people who are friendly, and after the election, they will come home,” Cherargei stated, suggesting these candidates would return to UDA fold after winning on DCP tickets.
Cherargei also launched personal attacks on Gachagua, calling DCP “the highest auction house” where party tickets allegedly go to the highest bidder. He claimed Gachagua’s recent UK fundraising trip—which reportedly aimed to raise Ksh2 billion—only netted Ksh2 million, calling the former DP a “political conman.”
Gachagua’s allies pushed back, saying the UK trip was cut short due to urgent political engagements including preparations for the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election and strengthening DCP structures nationwide.
The revelation of infiltration tactics raises serious questions about party loyalty and electoral integrity. It suggests UDA is deeply concerned about losing Mt. Kenya support to Gachagua’s movement and is willing to employ unconventional strategies to maintain control.
