Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has pulled back the curtain on a controversial political strategy that could reshape Kenya’s 2027 elections. In a candid media briefing at Parliament Buildings, the outspoken UDA ally revealed plans to infiltrate the opposition Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) with government-friendly candidates.
“We are going to have our candidates in UDA and also in DCP, but they sing UDA at night,” Cherargei declared, describing what amounts to a political Trojan horse strategy targeting the Mt. Kenya region.
The senator’s revelation comes amid growing support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his DCP party in the Mt. Kenya heartland. UDA appears determined not to cede political ground in this crucial voting bloc, even if it means supporting candidates who publicly align with the opposition while privately remaining loyal to President Ruto’s government.
Cherargei specifically mentioned the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race as a key battleground, where Governor Anne Waiguru is approaching the end of her constitutional term limit. He emphasized that UDA wants to ensure “people who are friendly” win these contests and “come home” after the election.
In a sharp attack on Gachagua, Cherargei accused DCP of being “the highest auction house” where party tickets allegedly go to the highest bidder. He also claimed that Gachagua’s recent UK fundraising tour, which aimed to raise Ksh2 billion, only managed Ksh2 million—though Gachagua’s allies dispute this, saying the trip was cut short for urgent domestic political engagements.
This strategy raises questions about political authenticity and voter trust as Kenya heads toward 2027. Read the full details at Nairobi Wire (https://nairobiwire.com/2026/05/uda-infiltrate-dcp-mt-kenya-gachagua-2027-election-cherargei.html).
